Kitchen Fitting Courses
Not yet running as a standalone course. Our kitchen fitting workshop is being set up at our new Price Street Business Centre site. The course below is written and ready to run — register your interest and we’ll let you know as soon as dates are confirmed. Kitchen fitting is already taught as part of our schools and 16–18 programmes.
Our kitchen fitting courses give you the hands-on skills to plan, prepare and install a complete kitchen from start to finish — working on real units in our Birkenhead workshops. Whether you’re starting a new career, adding to an existing trade, or planning to work for yourself.
Three routes
We run kitchen fitting as three courses, so you can go as far as you need:
- Foundation — 5 days. For complete beginners. Setting out, levelling and scribing, base and wall units, safe use of hand and power tools, working to a kitchen plan.
- Advanced — 10 days. Everything in Foundation, plus the skills that get a fitter rehired: worktop preparation and jointing, appliance housings, cornice and pelmet, dealing with out-of-square walls and uneven floors, snagging to a customer standard.
- Complete — 15 days. Everything above, plus the business end: pricing and quoting a kitchen, managing a customer from survey to sign-off, insurance, finding work, invoicing and getting paid.
What you’ll learn
- Reading and interpreting kitchen design plans
- Setting up and using a range of tools, such as jigsaws, circular saws and routers
- Installing base and wall units accurately
- Worktop measuring, cutting and fitting techniques
- Fitting sinks, appliances and integrated equipment
- Plumbing connections for kitchen appliances
- Electrical safety considerations
- Professional finishing and snagging
Entry requirements
No formal qualifications required. A basic understanding of DIY or construction is helpful but not essential. Candidates must be 18 or over.
What this course is — and what it isn’t
You don’t legally need a qualification to fit kitchen units in the UK. Competence and a portfolio of work are what get you hired, and that’s what these courses build.
What you can’t do without further qualifications: electrical connection work requires Part P registration, and anything gas requires Gas Safe registration. We’ll show you where those lines are, and how fitters work alongside qualified electricians and gas engineers.
